Which is what, in an age when the internet is flooded with interchangeable mp3s from amateur producers and anyone who’s ever compiled an iPod play list thinks they’re a DJ, makes Paul Loraine truly stand out. For although Paul has been spending long hours in the studio recently, crafting his own unique sound that has already received support and praise from the likes of Dubfire, Agoria, Timo Mass, Steve Bug, Someone Else & Laurent Garnier to name but a few, his tracks featuring on labels such as Fondation Records, Pi, Riffraff and Boilerhouse as well as polishing remixes for the likes of Nightshade Music, Pi Records & Rhythm Cult, everything he produces is clearly the result of spending as much time before sweaty crowds in dark nightclubs as it is in front of his laptop. A DJ since the age of 16 and a winner of the infamous muzik magazine bedroom bedlam at just 22, Paul completely transformed the Channel Islands dance scene with his 6 year Global Dance residency at the Golden Monkey where he shared residencies with Steve Lawler, Seb Fontaine, Way Out West, Brandon Bloc, Lottie, John Digween, Danny Howells amongst many others.
After playing for such club giants as Global Underground, Bugged Out! and Bedrock to name just three, Paul launched his own night Loco in Bristol in 2005, which has played host to DJs such as Slam, Terry Francis, Lump, King Unique, Jay Haze and Ashley Casselle who all share Paul’s attitude towards forward-thinking house and techno. Having recently expanded Loco into Cardiff, where the debut party featured Carl Craig and Radio Slave, Paul is now putting everything he has learned into practice in the studio; the innovative essence and dancefloor punch of his DJ sets perfectly captured in tracks like ‘Ghosts’, ‘Secret Society’ and ‘Pins and Needles.’ Boasting both the knowledge and confidence that only comes from immersing yourself in dance music for over a decade, Paul Loraine really is a name you can trust.
